Jars of honey in the EDBKA honey show West Moors

Taste local Dorset honey

First, take part in our free blind honey tasting.

Local beekeepers will provide different honeys for visitors to sample.

You will not know who produced each honey until voting has finished.

Simply taste each one and vote for your favourite.

It is informal, friendly and suitable for the whole family.

Selected jars of local honey will also be available to buy. Our own EDBKA honey will be available while stocks last.

Discover what bees and beekeepers create

Next, explore our colourful Honey Show displays.

You will see honey ranging from pale gold to deep amber.

There may also be creamed honey, cut comb and beautiful frames of honeycomb.

Meanwhile, our wax classes celebrate the many creative uses of beeswax.

Look out for handmade candles, beeswax wraps and decorative wax exhibits.

You can also discover mead, honey cakes, biscuits and honey confectionery.

Displays may include photographs and plants that provide nectar and pollen.

More than jars of honey

A Honey Show celebrates creativity as well as beekeeping skill.

Entries may include bee-themed poems, limericks and calligrams.

There may also be artistic, decorative or educational exhibits about bees.

Children can enter creative classes designed for younger participants.

Therefore, families can enjoy the show even without any beekeeping experience.

A friendly afternoon for families

Children are very welcome at our Honey Show.

They can see honeycomb, beeswax creations and other fascinating exhibits.

They can also learn how bees produce honey and support local wildlife.

Our members love answering questions and sharing their knowledge.

Please ask us anything about bees, honey or becoming a beekeeper.

You may arrive curious and leave knowing far more about these remarkable insects.

Meet local beekeepers

We are a friendly group with members from across East Dorset.

Some members have kept bees for many years.

Others are still learning through our training and association apiary.

We are always happy to explain what beekeeping involves.

You can also ask about swarms, bee health and supporting pollinators.

Could beekeeping become your next hobby?

Beekeeping offers learning, friendship and a closer connection with nature.

However, it also requires time, care and regular attention.

EDBKA helps beginners understand what is involved before they begin.

Our training includes six classroom sessions covering the beekeeping year.

Practical sessions then build confidence with bees at our West Moors apiary.

We also offer membership, talks and opportunities to meet other beekeepers.

Training or an experience day can make a thoughtful gift.

Fun for Families and Schools

Stay for tea and cake

Finally, take the weight off your feet and relax with us.

Tea, coffee and delicious homemade cake will be available during the afternoon.

Pop in briefly, or stay longer and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

We look forward to welcoming you to our 2026 Honey Show.
