EDBKA has two honey extractors that members can hire for a modest cost (£5 per day). They can be collected from either West Moors or Broadstone. If you are interested in hiring one of these please contact Jenny Wellman. You will need to know what size your frames are to ensure that we provide the right extractor.

Buying, Selling, and Swapping – A Note for All Members
East Dorset Beekeeping Association (EDBKA) – Policy Version 5/25
At the East Dorset Beekeeping Association (EDBKA), we are proud to support a friendly and active community of beekeepers. Our members enjoy sharing knowledge, helping each other, and learning together. As a result, many strong connections are made through events, WhatsApp groups, and other association platforms.
Sometimes, members choose to buy, sell, or swap things like bees, nucs (small colonies), or beekeeping equipment. However, it is important to understand that these are private arrangements between individuals.
We want to make something very clear:
EDBKA is not part of these transactions.
We do not check, arrange, or take responsibility for any sales, swaps or exchanges made between members.
Because of this, if you decide to take part in a trade, it is entirely your own decision and your own risk. In addition, we strongly encourage you to take care when making any agreements.
Before going ahead, we recommend you:
Before going ahead, we recommend you:
- Protect bee health – Make sure the bees are healthy to avoid spreading disease to your own or others’ hives.
- Check provenance and condition – Understand where the bees or equipment come from and confirm they are in good condition before making a trade.
- Consider biosecurity – Take steps to prevent pests or diseases from entering or spreading within the local bee population
EBKA also runs a free swarm collection service. This is a voluntary effort by members to help remove swarmed bee colonies. These are provided to new beekeepers who have completed our training or existing members who have lost bees, without guarantees.
In conclusion, our main goal is to promote good beekeeping practice and protect the well-being of bees in our region. By being thoughtful and responsible, members can help each other while keeping our bees safe and healthy.
Thank you for being part of EDBKA and helping to care for our local bee population.
