East Dorset Beekeepers Association (EDBKA) is a leading beekeeping association in Dorset, supporting both new and experienced beekeepers across the region.
Supporting Beekeepers and the Local Dorset Community
As a trusted beekeeping association in Dorset, we are proud to play an active role in supporting both our members and the wider Dorset community. Not only do we support beekeepers, but we also help raise awareness of the essential role honey bees play in our environment and food production. As a volunteer-led organisation, our focus is simple: to educate, connect, and inspire.

Beekeeping Training and Education
Whether you are completely new or already experienced, we offer structured training to support every stage of your beekeeping journey. For example, our popular six-week introductory course combines classroom learning in Spring with hands-on apiary experience, helping beginners build confidence quickly.
In addition, we run practical demonstrations, seasonal workshops, and skill-building sessions throughout the year. As a result, members can continuously develop their knowledge in hive management, disease control, and honey production. Above all, we aim to make beekeeping accessible, supportive, and enjoyable.

Community Events and Outreach
Beyond our training programmes, EDBKA actively supports local events, agricultural shows, and community days across Dorset. At these events, we provide engaging displays such as live bee demonstrations, honey tasting, and candle rolling.
Furthermore, these experiences are designed to educate families, spark curiosity, and inspire future beekeepers. At the same time, we offer a local swarm collection service, helping protect honey bee colonies while supporting residents.
Bringing Beekeepers Together
Equally important, community sits at the heart of everything we do. We organise winter talks, summer apiary meet-ups, and friendly social events where members can share knowledge and experiences.
In addition, our online groups ensure support is always available. Consequently, members feel part of a welcoming and knowledgeable network all year round.

Supporting Local Businesses and the Environment
Ultimately, our work extends beyond beekeeping. By promoting pollinator awareness, we support local businesses, agriculture, and green spaces across Dorset. Bees play a vital role in pollination; therefore, healthy bee populations directly benefit crops, gardens, and biodiversity.
For this reason, we are always keen to collaborate with schools, businesses, and community organisations. Whether through talks, demonstrations, or events, we help create meaningful, bee-focused experiences that benefit both people and the environment.
