A huge thank you to everyone who has helped at the apiary. Roles include caring for bees, maintaining the site and equipment, and extracting and bottling honey. Particular thanks to Seph, who has updated the record-keeping system. Resulting in all helpers and trainers having a clear overview at any time of the year.
All colonies made it through the winter, which is brilliant. Because most of the UK lost 30% of its hives, this is a testament to the care. We had a strong start in the spring.
New beekeepers had the opportunity to see splits and manipulations due to the early spring. H Edbrooke and M Woodhouse ran a queen rearing session which was so popular. The rearing course raised a few queens but sadly succumbed to wasps. Wasps have been a real problem for many members during this dry summer.

Varroa levels have been checked and treated as necessary, and hives have been fed ready for winter. There are a couple of positions available on the Apiary Committee for 2025. Our apiary group is a much-appreciated source of help. We welcome Ellie who has moved to Dorset from another association.
Huge thanks to Terry and Clive, who have ensured the apiary has vegetation under control. The area appears tidy and well-maintained. And thank you to Helen and Steph, who have stepped down this year. You are valued members who are key in the association.
